The original three, Larry, Moe and Curly, were funny, and they knew they were funny. They were outrageous in a hilarious way. They were trying to be funny, and they sure succeeded: Stupid head slaps, double eye pokes, running around in circles while laying on the floor (you’ve seen it), and the yuck-yuck-yucking of Curly, my favorite. But the three we saw up there last night – that was a pretty different kind of stooge-fest - silly, idiotic clapping as opposed to head slapping (though we would have much preferred the latter).
Our more modern three were funny last night as well - but with a different kind of funny. More like ironic, and, truthfully, pretty stupid. I’m relatively certain these 3 Stooges didn’t know it; they weren’t trying to be. Funny that is. Their comedian spokesperson, Biden, was Curly – though he looks and at times sounds a lot like the crotchety old man dummy in Jeff Dunham’s hilarious ventriloquist show. As former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard stated so pointedly, in a t.v interview recently, about Moe (upper left) on her “kindergarten” lecture about Ukraine: if it wasn’t so serious a matter, it would be funny (she might have said hilarious, and if not, should have).
Boy, the fertilizer was spread wide and deep in that speech. Showed us why we don’t trust politicians. Ever heard of Barnum Statements? (you know: “a sucker born every minute”). There were lots of them. What a garden could grow in all that! Wasn’t it Mark Twain who quipped: There are lies, damnable lies, and (then there are) statistics. In last nite’s case, there were no statistics, not to mention accomplishments. Hint: there was none of of either - especially all those accomplishments of his administration. Pretty much a slam dunk on what NOT to include in the address.
Oh yeah, there were some, that required a good bit of perfume, should one dare: The Afghanistan debacle, southern border invasion, gas and oil pipeline, drilling and independence shut down, crazy COVID other shutdowns and mandates (now all debunked), inflation “cure” pouring newly printed and borrowed dollars upon the fire of supply and demand, and then those bill of rights violations and big tech woke censorship collusions. Need I go on? Ok I won’t. None of that was really addressed, for obvious reasons, as I already said (sorry). And yet, there is the Democrat stand-byes of Climate Change, Equity and Diversity, and voter “suppression.” Their go-to’s.
Getting back to comedy (my original theme I have nonsensically departed from): what happened to the late night comedy that made such great fun of everyone – including themselves - that was actually funny and worth watching and enjoying? Have you ever seen the George Carlin riotously funny skit making light of our ridiculous germ phobia, and the crazy attempts by our government and others to try to make us completely safe from all germs and sickness (right - good luck with that), and the need of our immune system to at least have some germs, lots of them (!) to practice on? I’m thinking God kind of designed us and that system that way. You Tube-it (it’s probably there). Fits in so well in the whole COVID fear-epidemic that accompanied the actual pandemic.
But what a great skit last night could have been on late nite: Our 3 Stooges as the 3 Stooges. Now who would be Larry, Moe or Curly? You choose. I would laugh at that. I think America would, too. So much material for you unfunny funny late nite tv people.
But funny ceases to be funny when it comes to war, death, and freedom and liberty battle. Let’s all keep praying for Ukraine. (You are, aren’t you?). Such a terrible human crisis. Putin and the Russian attackers and killers. The Sin of Man. Indeed.
So consider this: There are two “solutions” you might say, for now – one obvious, the other miraculous.
We need both:
Fighting, for freedom – like the brave Ukrainians, when non-violence can’t face down murderous invasion and attack, or sans violent force, in a different way, peacefully, as with the Canadian truckers’ convoy, and American demonstrations and marches for their Constitutional rights and freedoms…and,
Prayer. It works. Try it. (important note: it probably makes a difference to whom and for what you are praying. Just a thought). So Pray for Ukraine and her people (and for the Russian people too, really - many of them did not declare war on Ukraine), and not to forget, America and Canada, in their “war” against government abuses and attacks upon their citizens’ freedom and liberty - the other war zone.
We can do both, on different fronts, in different ways. Why don’t we. Just a thought.
